STA Answer: I-80 Bottleneck Relief

STA is designing an extension of the HOV lane up to I-505 in Vacaville, it is planned as part of the Regional Express Lane Network. Once completed, there will be no reduction in lanes until after the I-505 Interchange. However, funding for the construction of this major project is not yet secured.

Help Complete the SF Bay Trail in Solano County!

The SF Bay Trail is a planned 500-mile trail around the entire San Francisco Bay, running through all nine counties and 47 cities. 340 miles are complete. The STA has always been a great partner in Solano County. Our priorities in Solano are the completion of the Bay and Vine Trail alignment from the Vallejo Ferry up to American Canyon, and the Bay and Ridge Trail's planned Vallejo Bluff Trail connecting Glen Cove to the Carquinez bridge. Go Solano!

Bike "highlighted" lanes

To make it more apparent and visible that vehicles must share the lane with bikes, highlight access striping along the major roadways that bicyclists use. This was done on some streets in Emeryville/Oakland, for example, having a green lane painted. Obviously, this is for streets that have to share with bicyclists and do not have a bike lane. This also helps bicyclists go with the flow of traffic and not against it.

Busses

There is (and has been) a need for full weekend bus service to El Cerrito BART since year 2005, the number of people commuting has increased 10 fold in that time period, one of the reason hat I-80 is so congested, is the lack of adequate public transportation.

BART is an absolute must

BART needs to be extended over both the Carquinez and Benicia bridges throughout Solano County. Maybe even entire NEW lines needs to be created. Traffic into the Bay Area is an absolute nightmare, and it will only continue to get worse. We need more rails to take cars off of the roads. The buses to BART are such a pain to take. You have to get there early, and if BART is late, you miss your bus. We need to stop emphasizing rapid bus transit to/from the Bay Area. We need to start adding BART trains to Solano County. Thousands of people commute from our area to the Bay. Let's make it easier, more time efficient, and safer for Solano County residents to make it to work by taking BART from Solano County.

Persons with disabilities and bike lanes

it has been mentioned at various STA committee meetings that seniors and persons with disabilities who have power chairs are using the bike lanes, which seems to be a result of not taking too much space on sidewalks, or that there may not be enough space on sidewalks. Drivers would not think to look for persons in power chairs being on the street even if on the side. How to make it safer for the persons who use these chairs is a question. is this a city or county issue?

Highway 12 between Fairfield and Rio Vista

Add 2 more passing zones closer to Fairfield. There are so many trucks now on SR 12 that people get really angry when stuck behind them. Four lanes all the way is preferable, but adding 2 more passing zones would at least help.
